Nursery

WB 3.7.23

This week in Nursery, our focus story was The snail and the whale. The children have enjoyed going minibeast hunting in the garden. Using the magnifying glasses, they were able to recognise and name the bugs. In the garden this week, children have been practising their gross motor skills on the bikes and how to use the pedals. In the sensory tray, the children have been matching the coloured spaghetti to the correct coloured case. We have been focusing on the letter V during our phonic lesson ' Down the wing, up a wing'.

WB 19.6.23

This week our book of the week has been 'The rainbow fish'. In phonics we have been looking at the sound 'R'. The children did a super job practising their letter formation using their 'magic pointer' and a whiteboard pen. They have been welcoming our new children into the setting and building friendships, sharing and taking turns with the toys. 
 

WB 9.5.23

Over the last two weeks we have been reading 'Owl babies'. The children have been talking about how animals grow. In phonics, we have been learning all about the sound 'B' and what a fantastic job everyone has done. We have been making marks on the tables using chalk, and using stamps to create some lovely pictures. Since we have been learning about growing, we have planted our very own plants in fresh soil - it was so much fun being a gardener for the day! 

WB 24.4.23

Our Topic this half term is all about Growing. We have been reading 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and learning all about how food helps us to grow. The children have been planting seeds in the soil and have been checking them everyday to see if they have grown. In phonics this week we have been learning all about the letter 'k'. This is a tricky letter to write but the children have been practising on their white boards and are doing a fantastic job.

WB 20.3.23

This week our story has been Dear Zoo. The children have been creating Easter eggs using paint and glitter; colouring in animals from Dear Zoo and making and talking about shapes with the play dough. In phonics the children have been learning all about the sound 'o'. They have been practising how to write the letter and comparing it to a familiar shape.

 

WB 6.3.23

This week in phonics, we have introduced the letter 'P' and everyone has done a brilliant job learning how to form the letter and pronounce it. Our book of the week has been 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'. We have been exploring scratch art using stencils and wooden sticks and we have created some lovely colourful pictures. We have had a Tiger who came to tea party with masks, cups, saucers and food and to top off the week, we have been colouring in pictures of Tigers using orange and black pens.

 

WB 27.2.23

This week in phonics, we have introduced the letter 'N' - down Nobby and over his net! In maths, the children have been colour matching using the numicon pieces and experimenting with different patterns. The children have spent time recognising colours and using the cotton wool to paint. 

 

WB 20.2.23

This week we have been reading 'Rumble in the Jungle'. We have been looking at a new sound in phonics too. The letter 'i' or as the children will know it, "Down the insect's body and a dot for his head." We have had an exciting week full of arts and crafts: we have made pancake collages and we have made lots of jungle animal masks for our nursery display. 

WB 30.1.23

This week we have been reading the Tiger who came to tea🐯 and what a great story it has been! In phonics we have been learning all about the letter 'd'. We have enjoyed creating stripes for a tiger using black paint, recognising and talking about colours in the garden and we have practised forming the letters in our name using chalk. 

Another busy but successful week in Nursery! 

WB 23.1.23

This week we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk and the children have loved it. They met the Giant whilst playing with the blocks in the sky (with some shaving foam for Sensory play). They have been making a beanstalk using tissue paper and red paint and they even explored soil, pretending to watch a magic beanstalk grow. In the water tray, children have enjoyed using soap and sponges to care for their babies as well as learning about keeping clean. Our sound of the week has been S - slither down the snake!

WB 16.1.23

This week the children have been reading a new story: The Three Billy Goats Gruff. In phonics, the children have moved on to a new sound 'a'. They have been linking lots of different words to the sound. The children have enjoyed colouring in different goats and practising their cutting skills. They have been working on writing the different letters in their names and have continued to build friendships within the group.

WB 9.1.23

This week the children have been engaged in phonics learning all about the sound ‘m’. The children have been enjoying their traditional tales unit and have been learning all about the Three Little Pigs. They have been creating pig's faces for our displays, using chalk to form letters from their name, practising their balancing skills in the garden and they have been exploring the tray, talking about the animals.

WB 3.1.23

Welcome back Nursery! What a great start to the New Year welcoming our new starters and starting our first full days.

This week we have been learning all about ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children have been exploring playdoh with the different shape cutters, making bracelets using pipe cleaners and pasta and they have been practising writing the letters in their names. 

 

The children have settled in very well this week and we are looking forward to welcoming them back next week.

 

WB 12.12.22

What a busy week we have had in nursery. The children are getting ready for Christmas and have started to make their calendars for 2023. They have created some stockings and wreaths and have been enjoying singing Christmas songs. The children have been exploring the sensory tray which has been filled with pasta and they have been improving their fine motor skills. In the sand tray, the children have been building castles using the different buckets.

WB 5.12.22

This week the children have been making lots of Christmas crafts including; colouring Christmas stockings and making a winter picture. We have spent some time practising our Christmas songs for our performance and we are excited to share this with our friends and families. The children have also enjoyed exploring the water tray with the sea animals and using shape cutters for the playdough.

WB 28.11.22

This week, our song of the week has been 5 little speckled frogs. The children are getting much better with their number recognition. The children have been practising their balancing skills in the garden, taking part in colour matching activities and decorating Christmas jumpers and stockings.

WB 21.11.22

In nursery the children continue to recap the letter M. They have enjoyed mark making using the chalk, building farms with the Lego bricks and using stencils for drawing people who help us. This week we have started our Christmas crafts and have been busy making Christmas wreaths using a plate and green and red tissue paper.

 

WB 14.11.22

This week the children in nursery have been focusing on the letter m. They have been finding lots of words that start with this sound. Our nursery rhyme this week has been ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and the children have been doing a super job at pointing to their body parts. To improve their fine motor skills, the children have been threading pasta and completing puzzles. They have also enjoyed playing with the sand tray and exploring all of the things that they can do with a bucket and spade.

WB 7.11.22

This week the children have made a poppy for Remembrance Day using red and black tissue paper. They have continued learning the sound ‘m’ in phonics and finding all the different words with this sound. The children have been playing with farm animals and play doh and continue to build friendships within the group.

WB 17.10.22

Nursery have had another fantastic week. They have enjoyed counting the numbers on the caterpillar, going on a minibeast hunt in the garden, exploring the sensory tray using cereals and making big sandcastles using the buckets and spades.

This week nursey have been learning about different parts of our bodies. They have been building different constructions as well as learning our song of the day ' 5 monkeys jumping on the bed’.

This week in the nursery the children have been reading the book Elmer. The children have enjoyed learning new rhymes and taking part in lots of elephant themed crafts.
The children have been getting more and more familiar with each other and are now forming lots of lovely friendship groups.

WB 19.9.22

This week the children have started their new book: Elmer. They have created their very own faces using mirrors to identify their features. This linked to our ‘All about me’ topic. In maths, the children were filling and pouring containers in the water tray. The children have also enjoyed building towers and houses.

WB 12.9.22

This week in nursery we have been learning ‘All about me’. The children drew some lovely pictures of their families and enjoyed playing with the small world houses and characters. In maths, the children have been exploring numbers in sand and have been counting how many dots are on the caterpillar. They have had so much fun.
