Year 2

WB 6.12.24

Year 2 have had an exciting two weeks! In Art, the children have been exploring printing. They experimented using different materials to print and then applied this skill to make a repeating pattern. We have also been designing our very own Christmas/Winter wrapping paper. Next week we will be applying all our skills learnt and making our very own wrapping paper!

Year 2 had their Brazil enrichment day this week. The children had a fantastic day learning more about Brazil and using the knowledge they had already learnt to complete the activities. During the day, children made their very own ‘Brazilian Truffles’ using melted chocolate and Rice Krispies. Also, the children used their Art knowledge to create their own Brazil flag using pointillism. Pupils also learnt about the famous Brazilian carnivals and made their own bright, colourful masks. They then finished the day with some amazing samba dancing (up, up, down, down), learning different moves and songs which they performed at their very own year 2 carnival. Can you show your grown-ups any of the samba moves you learnt? Everyone had so much fun! Can you ask your child to share what they learnt and enjoyed the most about Brazil Day?

The children have also been working very hard and practicing their Christmas Play and learning all the songs. The children cannot wait to show you all their hard work.

WB 11.11.24

This week in English, the children have been immersing in the story of ‘The Greedy Fox.’ We watched the CCTV from the school playground where the children found out that he had been ripping our rubbish apart! The children have fully immersed themselves into the story and used the Pie Corbett actions to retell it independently. Why don’t you ask your child to perform the story for you at home?

We have also started a new topic in Geography, learning about Brazil, locating the country on a world map as well as the continents and oceans. Can you tell your grown up what you have learnt?

In Computing, we have started our new topic ‘Making Music’ where we have been making patterns using musical instruments. We have learnt how to make the sounds louder and quieter.

WB 7.10.24

Year 2 have had a very busy and exciting two weeks! We have been to Buckingham Palace, participated in Modern Foreign Languages Day and celebrated Hello Yellow Day! As well as this, we have been working really hard and have become mini authors writing innovated stories based on the fable, Cat, Bramble and Heron. During our DT lessons we have been learning how to sew using a running stich and have now sewn and decorated our own puppets. It was so wonderful to see the children’s creative ideas.

Year 2 were superstars on our trip to Buckingham Palace.  They were very excited to be going on the train and we had many members of the public compliment them on their manners and exemplary behaviour. Upon arrival at the Palace, we were lucky enough to see the Royal Cavalry on horseback. Inside the palace we discovered all sorts of incredible artefacts that told stories of kings and queens from long ago. Each item had its own special history, and the tour guide shared interesting facts that made everyone smile and think.

During Modern Foreign Languages Day, the children participated in many activities linked to our chosen country of Germany! They learnt some phrases and words with Mrs Nye, made their own German flag out of clay, as well as learning about different significant structures and buildings. It was so lovely to see the children dressed in their cultural clothing. Many children shared with the rest of the class words and phrases from additional languages they speak, this was a truly wonderful experience.

WB 23.9.24

Year 2 have had a very exciting two weeks! We received a letter from Gru who asked us to complete a mission of investigating which material would be the most hardwearing for him to use to make his minions dungarees. We conducted our experiment and found out that wool was the most hard wearing with lace being the least.

We have also been using our super prediction skills in our guided reading lessons. Chapter 5 in Flat Stanley is called “The Museum Thieves” so we have been predicting what we think might happen and how Stanley might save the day! We cannot wait to find out what happens next in the story.

Well done on all your hard work year 2 - Keep it up!

WB 13.9.24

Year 2 have had a great two weeks and have already been busy learning. In English, they have been looking at the story of The Papaya that Spoke. To begin this unit, the children used their senses to explore Papaya and were very brave and tasted it! The children have written some fantastic innovations of the story using descriptive and emotive language.

Our Maths lessons have been focusing on number and place value. The children have learnt how to partition two-digit numbers with some moving onto three-digit numbers. The children have been comparing numbers, representing them on number lines using various resources.

In DT they have been busy practicing their sewing skills in preparation to make a puppet by the end of the half term.

We have also been learning about the monarchy in History and it has been wonderful to see how excited the children are to find out what it is like to be a King or Queen.

Well done everyone, keep working hard!
