Reception

10.1.25

We have had a wonderful first week back at school after the Christmas holidays. We started the week by discussing our holidays and the New Year. The children were all really excited to talk about the fireworks they had seen and discussed why it happens. We then began our new topic of People Who Help Us by reading a beautiful poem called People Need People, we have been discussing who helps us and why they need us. Thinking about our family and friends, as well as the emergency services, our teachers and other important and helpful jobs such as postal workers, shopkeepers, and more! The children are all really happy to be back at school and are looking forward to the upcoming term!

6.12.24

Reception have gone Christmas crazy practicing for our Christmas show! We can’t wait to perform for all of our families and friends, it’s going to be spectacular!

We also very much enjoyed our trip to the library. We walked so sensibly all the way to Belhus Library and put on our most amazing listening ears while learning all about the library from the most wonderful librarian! She read us the most exciting book about a silly octopus and we got to explore lots of different books. For some of us, we even got our very own library card and got to borrow a book for 3 whole weeks!

WB 11.11.24

The past couple of weeks, the Reception children have enjoyed exploring traditional tales, most especially The Little Red Hen and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We had the most fun making our own bread from scratch just like the Red Hen in their story. We measured out all the ingredients and mixed it all up together. We then practiced our fine motor skills by spreading yummy butter and jam on our bread! What a nice treat! Next, we practised our storytelling by thinking up actions to tell the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and have had a lot of fun roleplaying it during circle time and in our provision. The best activity was when we got to make our very own scary troll faces!

We were really lucky to meet an alien from Mars last week, they came in and took us on a dramatic adventure through space and we all had so much fun! We’re all looking forward to our fun trip to the library next week, we’re going to get our very own library cards and practice sitting down quietly during quiet reading time at the library!

WB 7.10.24

This term, Reception have had a great time in class getting to explore the Autumn season. We have ventured into the Jungle while reading our story Monkey Puzzle and we really enjoyed making our Jungle Themed Rainsticks, roleplaying as different jungle animals and fork painting different animal faces!

We really enjoyed our European Languages Day, where we learnt all about Romania. It was so fun getting to learn about a new country where some of our friends families are from and we even got to eat some yummy Romanian dessert! We are still using our new Romanian words we learnt from that day!

Most recently, we have been getting spooky in Reception while reading Funnybones. We love the story, and especially love the Skeleton Dance song where we have learnt about all the different parts of our body and where they connect.

WB 13.9.24

Reception have settled brilliantly into their new classes! They have all been very excited to start their school journey, meeting their teachers and new friends and discovering all the fun areas in the Reception classrooms. They have most particularly enjoyed playing on the bikes in the garden and creating storylines in our home role play area. We have started to practice recognising and writing our names so we can confidently and independently find our coat pegs and class trays and have been learning how to count to 5 by singing nursery rhymes and using objects to practically count.

We have been reading the book ‘What Makes Me A Me’ in our writing lessons and have been using our classroom discussions and classroom activities to discuss ourselves, including talking about our favourite things and what our family looks like.
