Girls’ & Boys’ Football update Year 5 & 6
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams have made good starts in their cup & league games, with both respective A teams and the girls’ B team having cup quarter-final matches to look forward to in January. We will keep you updated with their progress, via our twitter feed @DilkesPE.
Thurrock District rep team
Well done to Jude from Year 6 who has successfully survived numerous trials to be selected for the Boys’ Thurrock District squad for the season. We are all very proud of you Jude and we know you are going to have a great season with the team.
Thurrock SSP Girls Football Year 5 & 6
Well done to the girls’ team that finished in 3rd place in a tightly contested event where the girls lost to the eventual winners in a penalty shoot-out. All the girls played their part and worked hard for each other as a committed team. This was the first time that they played together as a team for the 22/23 football season and what a great start it was.
Thurrock SSP Tag Rugby Yr 5 & 6
A fantastic display from the mixed squad of 12 players who performed so well at this tournament, it was a joy to watch. The team played 6 matches and didn’t lose one! They only lost out to the winners by scoring one less try than them. We would like to thank all 12 players for attending the extra training sessions in the lead up to this event and it showed at the tournament how much effort you had put into it. Finishing in 2nd place out of 15 schools, we are very proud of you!
Thurrock SSP Cross Country KS2:
Well done to all 48 pupils that represented the school in the KS2 cross country event held at William Edwards this term. Fantastic determination was shown across all year groups especially with the windy weather they were welcomed with on the day. As a school we finished 5th place overall, with some excellent performances from year groups, teams & individuals.
Congratulations to the Year 3 Boys team that won gold medal in the team event and also to Abbie (Year 5), who finished in bronze medal position. They both have now made it through to the regional event early next year. Our Year 4 and 6 Girls’ team finished in 2nd place just missing out on gold medal position for their group.
Thurrock SSP Dodgeball Year 5 & 6
A strong display from the dodgeball team in the most popular event of the Thurrock sporting calendar held at William Edwards. Approximately 20 schools took part in this event and we made it through to the knockout stages and lost to the eventual and deserved winners, East Tilbury. Well done Dilkes as we managed to secure a 3rd place finish in this fun and exciting event.
Thurrock SSP Basketball Year 5 & 6
Our basketball team were determined and excited about this event even before letters were handed out! They developed existing and new skills in our training sessions which they then went on to demonstrate on the court. They worked extremely well together and are very keen to start using the recently purchased basketball hoops at break and lunch after the Christmas break.
House team points
We have run multiple house team competitions throughout the autumn term from poster competitions to snow related target games using scrap paper. Prizes and points are awarded to individuals which are then added to their house teams overall score and displayed in the school hall.
Current points standings are:
Schriever (yellow) - 9283
Brownlee Brothers (green) - 9174
Itoje (red) - 9092
Williamson (blue) - 9046
Reid and Hewett (purple) - 8923
Catalyst Cup events
As a trust, we set up our own mini events on a regular basis to allow our pupils to learn new skills, develop existing skills and to compete against each other. At the end of each competitive event where points are awarded, the winning school takes the Catalyst Cup back to their school and show their achievement until the next event. Also, every pupil that participates in our events receive a medal for their participation. So far we have held three events which were Y3/4 mixed football, boccia and kurling and Y5/6 girls football.
Young Leaders
Our Year 6 pupils have completed their young leaders training and are looking forward to coaching and supporting pupils from all year groups on the MUGA pitch at lunch times. This will include active games and skill development.
